The Full Story of Joe Midgley and
Neue Schule
In 2024 Joe Midgley was introduced to the Neue Schule CEO at the Western Equestrian Society National show. The company were already a worldwide success in English riding, but were looking to develop a western range for both leisure and performance. They invited Joe to their base and invited him to share his knowledge and help design the range. This forged a partnership that would create a new generation of bits like the western world had never seen before.

Joe explained the history of Western Bit making and how the styles evolved across the US. Weight distribution and balance were really important in the advanced bits so lots of discussion, drawings and conversations ensued to create what you can see below. Joe was adamant that the western world needed more variety and sizing options in snaffle bits too. The spirit of the American west with the modern research, materials and anatomical understanding has produced a range like nothing else in the world.
Mission
Our mission was to create more than just a bit. We wanted to create a work of art. Something that would make you stand out in the arena, but provide your horse with the superior comfort that can only be found with Neue Schule's Salox. You can read more about Salox in the catalogue below.
The bits
Salox is the only metal to have been created solely for use in a horse's mouth. A Nickel free alloy that boasts the softness of Gold, the sweetness of sweet iron, the warmth of copper and the toughness of Steel! Horses that have previously been inwardly fixated on the bit and/or overactive in the mouth have proven to be attentive and responsive to the riders aids culminating in a soft consistent response.
